Introduction to Dental Reception
Introductory courses are forerunners for our Quality Assured programmes.
The Foundation courses allow learners to try out the learning experience we provide to see if our approach works for them. On completion, learners will be able to make an informed decision whether to proceed on to an Advanced or Higher course
Induction Activity The Foundation programmes start with an induction activity to establish learners' current knowledge, experience, hopes and expectations from the course and will introduce learners to our online portal system and library of resources.
Duration Approx. 4-6 weeks
Tuition These programmes offers one-to-one, weekly 30 min tutorials with a named tutor. Tutorials are by appointment over the telephone, video call or zoom. In addition, online videos are available from the course portal. An extensive online library and a wide range of eCPD are also available during the period of study
Learning Activities Each tuition session will cover one or more blended learning activities. Which learners will complete and upload for feedback before their next tutorial.
IT requirements Laptop or desktop running MS Word
Assessment There are two assessment formats, Missing words assessment or assignments. The learner and tutor will agree on the correct format to complete the learning activities. This will depend on whether the Advanced or Higher programme is most suitable for the learner's progression.
On completion, Learners receive an in-house certificate and eCPD. Learners can transfer the £ 100-course fee to a relevant Advanced or Higher course.
About the Course
This course details the input of dental receptionists in a quality-driven healthcare sector. It looks at personal qualities that support good reception services and considers the formal training required to ensure that the receptionist is the friendly face of the practice projecting high standards of professionalism and caring to all patients and can effectively support the work of the clinical team. This course will cover reception skills and aptitudes, how to understand patients' needs and work as part of the dental team.
This programme aims to:
- Highlight the skills and aptitudes that produce excellent receptions services.
- Consider how the front of hours teams Services that showcase the professionalism of the clinical team
- Explore ways to project a caring and professional image to existing and potential new patients
Learning Outcomes participants will be able to:
- Recognise how effective reception skills enable each member of the team to care for their patients.
- Understand the impact of making patients feel cared about.
- Create ongoing professional development plans and targets for receptionists Define how receptions skills influence the patient experience.
- Understand the professional responsibilities of GDC non-registrants.
Objectives
This training will look in-depth at the skills and aptitudes that ensure receptions skills are consistently meeting the needs of patients, colleagues and the dental business. Using case studies and action learning techniques it will define training and development needs and emphasise the importance of analysing what goes well so that with reflective learning so that specific strengths can be identified and used to strengthen areas of weakness.
It will highlight the need to provide resources and clear definitions of receptions skills and show their impact on patient care, so that training and development can be put into place to ensure the quality of reception skills is an asset to the practice and supports the work of the clinical team.

The course offers 12 hours CPD GDC Category B
Payment due on booking This Foundation course is delivered over 6 weeks, with the course fee including 6 weeks of tutor support. After this period, additional monthly packages of tutor support can be purchased at a fee of £100 plus VAT per month.
Entry Requirements
Particpants shold be curently working in general dental practice , or in a reception role in any other dental care service
