Unit 1- Quality Management in Dentistry

Learners will understand the dental legislative and regulatory framework and be able to assess the role and authority of dental lead bodies. Learners will examine how these requirements impact on daily activities in general dental practices. Learners will understand the principles of quality management in dental settings. They will perform a detailed analysis of how quality principles impact on specified areas of dental care, concerning the “Well-led Key Lines of Enquiry”.

Learners will be able to discuss ethical concerns that may arise in dental practice and the specific responsibilities of registered managers, to meet ethical standards for patient care and safety. Learners will explore specific aspects of the Care Quality Commission (CQC) requirements for registered managers.

Unit 2- Managing Compliance

Learners will understand the development of a historical range of quality care standards, and the driving principles behind continual improvement. Learners will know how Key Lines of Enquiry measure the quality of individual care providers’ services. They will understand how to use current standards for registered managers activities to ensure a positive contribution to patient care and ensure practice safety.

Learners will critically analyse the role of registered managers in developing team culture, quality and performance. Learners will understand the diverse and essential elements of managing a dental team effectively. They will also learn about how to make and dental practice “inspection ready” and work productively with inspectors. This programme considers personal development requirements, eCPD expectations and how the learning of individual team members enhances the team

Unit 3 - Leading Compliance

Learners will understand how a dental team can develop a whole team culture with appointed team lead roles, contributing to the continuous development of quality measures.

They will know the training and support needed for delegated lead roles to ensure that team members taking on responsibility are well-equipped for the role. The role of the Statement of Purpose (SoP) is explored regarding the day-to-day requirements for meeting the standards in the SoP and practice’s business plan. Performance management techniques will be analysed alongside Quality Audit, to ensure performance is measured and evaluated.

Unit 4 -Quality Development

Learners will develop strategies to address shortfalls in service provision by using skills for quality management, such as monitoring reflective analysis and audit. This is essential to ensure services do not fall below the Gold Standard. The units emphasise the importance of record keeping and ensuring all records meet the standards set by commissioners and the CQC. Learners will evaluate the process of peer review and supervision, and develop techniques needed to ensure quality development and enhancement in dental services.  The final project of the course will be a compliance review to enable the registered manager to plan quality management activities for 12 months. Within this unit the registered manager will create a 12-month mobilisation policy review.

I have been a member of the Glenys Bridges team for over a two and a half years, and have been treated with respect and care ever since. Glenys is very professional, enlightening and insightful to individual student needs. My tutoring sessions with her are really amazing and transformative for me, and she helped me to progress from a Lead dental nurse to Practice Manager. I was going through a rough time and I wasn't sure I would make it, but she showed me that I am important and helped me get through the tough time. Thank you for the past few years, I’ve really enjoyed working with you, and I feel it has been a valuable experience. I have already recommended your services and will continue to do so!

Patrycja Galonzka , Level 5 Diploma for Dental CQC Registered Managers (RQF)

I recently completed the Advanced Team Leading Skills for Dental Nurses S-1. I have 20 years experience of working as a dental nurse and stepped into the role of a lead nurse a few years ago. Although I am a very experienced nurse I initially found stepping into this role a bit tough as I wasn't used to managing others and didn't like asking the other nurses to do things. I would actually do them by myself rather than ask. Throughout this course I learnt that it is important to allocate and delegate tasks to the other nurses. This gives me time to do other tasks I have to do and also makes the other nurses role more enjoyable as they are being given the opportunity to do something different. I had Edita as my tutor and she was fantastic. She was very upbeat and passionate when we had our tutorials each week. Her passion also made me feel motivated. This course and Editas support made me believe in myself. I would highly recommend and look forward to doing further training with Glenys Bridges in the future. The best part of this course for me was gaining my Certificate of Acheivement.

Lisa Clark, Advanced Team Leading Skills for Dental Nurses -S 1
