  • Learners will receive a certificate from a national awarding organisation as proof of their achievement

Aim(s) of the programme are to:

  • Enable registered managers to develop the required knowledge and resources to deliver outstanding services according to CQC regulations.
  • Explore a wide range of management skills and techniques in the legal and professional regulations governing exceptional dental services.

Unit 1- Quality Management in Dentistry

Learners will understand the dental legislative and regulatory framework and assess the role and authority of dental lead bodies. Learners will examine how these requirements impact daily activities in general dental practices. Learners will understand the principles of quality management in dental settings. They will perform a detailed analysis of how quality principles impact specified areas of dental care concerning the "Well-led Key Lines of Enquiry".

To meet ethical standards for patient care and safety, learners will be able to discuss ethical concerns that may arise in dental practice and the specific responsibilities of registered managers. Learners will explore specific aspects of the Care Quality Commission (CQC) requirements for registered managers.

Unit 2- Managing Compliance

Learners will understand the development of a historical range of quality care standards and the continual improvement's driving principles. Learners will know how Key Lines of Enquiry measure the quality of individual care providers' services. They will understand how to use current standards for registered managers activities to ensure a positive contribution to patient care and ensure practice safety.

Learners will critically analyse the role of registered managers in developing team culture, quality and performance. Learners will understand the diverse and essential elements of managing a dental team effectively. They will also learn how to make dental practice "inspection ready" and work productively with inspectors. This programme considers personal development requirements, eCPD expectations and how the learning of individual team members enhances the team

Unit 3 - Leading Compliance

Learners will understand how a dental team can develop a team culture with appointed team lead roles, contributing to the continuous development of quality measures.

They will know the training and support needed for delegated lead roles to ensure that team members taking on responsibility are well-equipped for the role. The role of the Statement of Purpose (SoP) is explored regarding the day-to-day requirements for meeting the standards in the SoP and practice's business plan. Performance management techniques will be analysed alongside Quality Audit to ensure performance is measured and evaluated.

Unit 4 -Quality Development

Learners will develop strategies to address shortfalls in service provision by using skills for quality management, such as monitoring reflective analysis and audit. This is essential to ensure services do not fall below the Gold Standard. The units emphasise the importance of record-keeping and ensuring all records meet the standards set by commissioners and the CQC. Learners will evaluate the process of peer review and supervision and develop techniques needed to ensure quality development and enhancement in dental services.  The course's final project will be a compliance review to enable the registered manager to plan quality management activities for 12 months. Within this unit, the registered manager will create a 12-month mobilisation policy review.
