First Steps in NHS GDS Regulations

This programme is a highly specialised blended learning course that examines skills and techniques for management success in the current economic and regulatory climate. It covers three domains: leadership and management, communication, and professionalism. NHS Regulations for General Dental Practitioners 

Course Objectives

• Describe the NHS rules and regulations that underpin general dental services.
• Explain the NHS and other professional regulations and guidance for working as a Performer.
• Identify common pitfalls associated with dental rules and regulations - and offer strategies for avoiding these.

Learning outcomes:

• Describe the NHS rules and regulations that underpin general dental service.
• Implement the Regulations and Guidance that apply to NHS General Dental Practice.
• Formulate strategies to avoid non-compliance with the relevant Regulations and Guidance.

This programme offers 12 Guided Learning Hours

This programme consists of three elements. The programme is delivered in a blended learning format. The training is highly specialised and examines skills and techniques for management success in the current economic and regulatory climate.

This programme covers skills equivalent to the National Curricula Framework's level 3. This means that assessments will measure the participants' ability to demonstrate understanding and practical applications for learning.

Participants must complete a learning styles assessment as part of their induction activity before commencing the course. The course intends to provide a means by which participants can develop their knowledge, skills, and team role.

Based on the four education domains stipulated by the General Dental Council, this programme focuses on the following three domains:

• Leadership and management
• Communication
• Professionalism

Teaching and Learning

The programme offers a tutored distance learning programme in which, following a one-to-one tutorial, students complete Learning Activities for assessment. On completion of four Learning Activities, students produce an assignment to demonstrate learning in the context of their workplace.

Learning and Assessment

Learners will complete a series of learning activities and a reflective review to confirm learning.
